FREE CHOICE

This is my second free choice drawing, i choose to make it a battle scene again. I think it turned out very well for the large amount of time and detail i put into it. I hope you can see that detail when I scan it in. Good thing the graphic's room scanner is awesome. The quality of detail I think is shown fairly well, and it looks how I want it to. Overall very happy with it.

These are the 3 photos I took that I enjoy the most, due to the complexity and interest of each of them.
My favorite though is the one of Amber the lighting was interesting the light coming from the road above and the natural 'grungeyness' to the location makes it unique. It has great leading lines and dynamic diagonals that create a lot of tension and 'livelyness' in the photo.
My second favorite photo that I took was the one in MIAD of my shoe. I would love to take more credit for it, but it was pretty accidental and I love how it came out (creating cool stuff on accident :D). I love the color on the ground and the lighting that was created from overhead, the emphasis is on the negative space and the objects that are seemingly 'poking' into the photo.
My last favorite photo is the one too
k down by the river. It has an incredibly strong diagonal line that leads the eye all the way down the photo and helps define space and distance in the photo. The cool and warm colors contrast each other and create an interesting effect in the foreground.

Self-Portrait

I choose media I knew I was experienced with and when I mixed them together in this peice I think they complemented each other very very well. The media that was in my peice included ink, pastel, and charcoal, all of which I feel safe with (not much color cept in the ink of course). My peice is something that I usually dont do, most of my art is more precise and this is more concept drenched. I used the colors to attract the veiwer with the splatters is interests the person making them want to look closer. Although the colors are attractive I dimmed them down a bit making me, the white source the focal point of the peice. This creates a great emphasive on the actual self-portrait of me, and the tree behind me. The tree is symbolic to nature, and the colors and ink symbolic to urban, and how I'm inbetween them. How I deeply enjoy both and how both ar part of who I am, althoug I lean more towards the nature side.

10 Projects...

This ten project assignment was like throwing a 100mph fast ball in a little league baseball game for me. I really had to beat my procrastination, and try my hardest to work threw each piece after starting all of them. This is what i think worked best for me, as i knew what all my ideas were they just weren't finished. Thats exactly what i did, spending my first class period doing a brain spill, and getting all my thoughts down on paper, i suggest this, and think its incredibly helpful. Most of my projects were 3D even though i plan to do a 2D design portfolio. My word was metal, and i took it a couple of ways. This expanded my mind and allowed me, to finish the project in time. Although most was 3D i also drew a bit in various media including pencil, marker, and color pastels. I enjoyed it and i think it warmed me up for what is to come in the year.

RECAP

...Because at this point I forgot to do 10 of my 13 blogs I will try to think back and recap each week I missed throughout the summer.

When July rolled around I was getting more constant with my art, painting on my walls and sketching every once in awhile. It turned out that after my painting on the wall I just decided to paint back over it and touch it up to make it look like I had not ruined my entire room. My sketches I couldn't help to tear out a couple but most of them made it through the storm. My art was getting better as I practiced more, but even better, my eye for detail was enhanced as I challeged myself more and more with pencil.

It wasn't soon till my enthusism started to fade. Soon my everyday doodling turned into every once and a while or not even at all (thats what happened to my blogging). As my influence of school work during the summer faded my will to go out and have fun grew stronger and stronger, I had a couple of Wrestling tourneys also throughout the summer that I did very well in, going around 27-5 in the offseason, for win/loss. My technique in wrestling was getting better but my drawing was losing its fine tuning.

I think that I was trying to do anything to avoid drawing this late in the summer (and blogging although I spent a lot of time online). Thats one thing I did, went to the state fair. I didnt see much straight up fine art, but the art of advertising is what I looked at. Art is all about controling or influencing the observer to feel a certain way. This is what advertising did for me, it influenced me to want to buy, their product or service.

After my experiences with design from the state fair. I used that on my wall painting I had going in my room (which had not been painted over yet). It worked out that, I tryed building a artpeice with spray paint and broad paintbrushes/rollers. That was the first time I ever tried to artistically paint. It didn't end well... I HATE PAINTING.

My hate for painting overall grew as I was granted with the amazing job of stripping and re-paint a boat house. This job envovled almost an entire week, three gallons of paint, and many many paintbrushes and rollers. Sanding a entire boat house seems like a daunting task because it is... It is... such a terrible TERRIBLE job. After my arms were about to fall off I got to paint it. This task that made me sore as hell, was just a mental reminder of how much I hate painting, even if its just involving putting down an even coat.

So after being worked out from all the painting I took a break. This involved me doin nothing. NOTHING at all... this was totally boring. I literally sat around and did nothing. Nothing at all. This horrible week involved lots of oreos, and gallons of milk, and resulted in 10 pounds.

I started to work out more and more, after my week of hibernation. Preparing myself for cross country. I didnt have much time to draw with all the working out... I thought to myself all the time wondering how I was going to lose 20 pounds before the start of wrestling. Im currently 1 pound in, on the first day without even trying, I think thats a good sign. My drawing I need to get to. Because school is almost here.

We had the midnight run today in Crosscountry it was a blast and I'm so excited for the season. I got to my drawings finishing 2 of the 4 capable sketchs that had good chances of becomeing acceptible projects. It worked out really good. Although looking back it doesn't feel like i succeded that much with learning anything new and growing more mature with my art, it didn't seem like it was changing or getting out side the box. But honestly I didn't want that. I think it was my goal to make art that was on the border that, was acceptable and people, understand it, but creative enough that you feel like your growing as an artist.

I want to re-enforce what I said last time. I like making art that is unique but also fits in to a certain point. I want to pay with that balence of things to make people look at it and feel like its orginal (which isnt always true but I dont claim it as my own, its like drawing off of another persons photos). I'm starting to get the hang of things and creating this. Cuz the first thing I want to do, is understand what I want to say with my art. I want to amaze.

This is my last post and I think I might cut it a bit short. I think this (writing 10 of my blogs in one sitting) was quite an experience as i reflected on my summer art. I grew alot not only physicaly (20 pounds) but artistically and emotionally. My art is more developed and sophisticated and the meaning behind it as I enter AP art will be much greater than ever before.

Missed a week?

I've really lost track of time during the summer now, and I only know its sunday because I went to church. I think i missed a week because i had a camp, but i cant remember... i think i did. Although my time has gotten all mixed up i am still up on top of my drawings and is still working on the illustrations, and still drawing and sketching that type of subject. I needa get to an art museum.

Procrasination

This week was defintely a bad one for me, it was hard to keep up with the requirements. I was doing a lot with my friends and having fun at summerfest. I really have to start taking more pictures, I dont do that nearly enough. My drawings tho although got little attention this week are not looking much diffrent still in the realm of illustration. I was actually curoius on how much longer I was gonna have doing just those until I ran out of creativity. I started one that was based off a character in a game, it is looking really good. Now that I notice it I think I have to expand my media because all of the drawings have been in black and white and no color. This is exactly the opposite of what it was at the end of the year for me with drawing 2. I dont know if drawing in color improved my art skills or made them more refined and detailed, because even now I feel like I am more and more capable of producing 'ligit' peices of work.

Life's been quite interesting, each day, some time is taken away as i wake up in the morning to choirs, showering, and drawing, and more and more the rhythem of these repeative events have gotten quicker and more precise.

All my drawings and sketchs have been realistic, illustrations of whatever Im thinking about, or the games i play.
